Ans. 1 Antonio is sad due to his melancholy. He does not know the cause of his sadness because he is yet to find it. Solanio and Salarino guess that Antonio is depressed because of the thought of his merchandise and his business ventures abroad. Seeing his companion Bassanio lifts his depression.
