● Reaction -

Alkyl halides on treatment with alcoholic potassium hydroxide causes dehydrohalogenation & gives alkene.

1-Bromopropane on dehydrogenation by alc.KOH gives pent-1-ene.

CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-Br + alc.KOH --> CH3-CH2-CH2-CH=CH2 + KBr + H2O
