PRAIRIE

1.The Prairies are located in the heart of a continent. Therefore, the climate is of continental type with extreme temperatures. The summers are warm, with temperatures of around 20oC and winters are very cold with temperatures of around -20oC. ... In winters, a thick blanket of snow covers this region.

2.Cattle rearing, dairy farming, agricultural activities are the main occupations of the people of the Prairie regions. In North America the dominant grazing animals are bison and pronghorn. 3.Flora and Fauna

Prairies are practically treeless, but where water is available trees like willows, alders, and poplars grow. Places that receive an average rainfall of 50cm are suitable for agriculture and crops such as maize (the major crop), potatoes, soyabean, cotton, and alfa-alfa.

VELDS

1.The climate of the veld is highly variable, but its general pattern is mild winters from May to September and hot or very hot summers from November to March, with moderate or considerable variations in daily temperatures and abundant sunshine.

2.People in the Velds. Velds are known for cattle rearing and mining. These activities are very famous in this region. Maize, barley, potatoes, and oats are the main crops.

3.Flora and fauna

Flora: The vegetation cover is sparse. Red grasses grow in bush velds. In the high velds, acacia and maroola are seen to be growing. Fauna: The animals of this region are mainly leopards, lions, kudu and cheetah.
