There was a marked difference between seagull and the pilot’s character.
The seagull was basically timid and scared of taking up challenges. Out of fear he didn’t jump off the cliff to learn to fly. He kept sitting there near the edge, mustering up all his courage to jump off. If his mother would not have made a clever plan to make him jump, he would have perhaps died on the cliff.
The pilot on the other hand was quite intrepid and willing to take risk. He had a strong desire to reach England and be with his family. Even the night time, insufficient fuel, and the approaching storm could not deter him from flying to England.
