1 ....Froth flotation is a process for selectively separating hydrophobic materials from hydrophilic. This is used in mineral processing, paper recycling and waste-water treatment industries. Historically this was first used in the mining industry, where it was one of the great enabling technologies of the 20th century.

An ore of a metal is an impure source, this means other than the metal it consists of many other impurities such as sand, grit, clay, rocks etc. These impurities are collectively known as gangue.

2.....Self-Reduction Process

For example, in the extraction of mercury, the sulphide ore (cinnabar) is heated in a current of air when the following reactions take place. Similarly, in the extraction of copper, the sulphide and the oxide interact at an elevated temperature to give the metal.
