1. Define genetics . What is the contribution of Mendel in this branch of biology ? 2. How will you determine the age of fossil ? 3. Distinguish between acquired and inherited traits by giving one example of each . Why are traits acquired during the lifetime of an individual not inherited ?

2. age of fossils are determined by two methods
1. by carbon dating method
2. how depth the fossil is found, if deeper then it is old if not deeper then it is new ex - swimming
3. acquired traits are traits that an organism develops from the environment, these traits can't be passed to next generation
inherited traits are traits which can be passed from one generation to other
ex- colour, hair

acquired traits are the characteristics which develop during the lifetime of an individual ....for example muscular body ....

inherited traits are those which are obtained from the parents ....for example free or attached ear lobe.....


the traits which are acquired by individuals during his lifetime can't be passed to future generations as they do not bring any changes in DNA of germ cell ...any change in non reproductive tissue cannot lead to change in DNA of germ cell....
