- solvent -- A solvent is a substance that dissolves a solute, resulting in a solution. A solvent is usually a liquid but can also be a solid, a gas, or a supercritical fluid. The quantity of solute that can dissolve in a specific volume of solvent varies with temperature.
- distillation --Distillation is the process of separating the components or substances from a liquid mixture by using selective boiling and condensation. Distillation may result in essentially complete separation, or it may be a partial separation that increases the concentration of selected components in the mixture.
- saturated solution -- The term saturated solution is used in chemistry to define a solution in which no more solute can be dissolved in the solvent. It is understood that saturation of the solution has been achieved when any additional substance that is added results in a solid precipitate or is let off as a gas.
Differences :
1. Compounds are pure substances. They are made from the same types of molecules. Each molecule of a compound is made from two or more different kinds of atoms that are chemically bonded. Mixtures are made of two or more substances — elements or compounds — that are mixed physically but not chemically; they do not contain any atomic bonds.
2. A homogeneous mixture appears uniform, regardless of where you sample it. Examples of homogeneous mixtures include air, saline solution, most alloys, and bitumen. Examples of heterogeneous mixtures include sand, oil and water, and chicken noodle soup.
