1/social changes-The Second World War triggered a series of rapid and far-reaching social changes in Newfoundland and Labrador. The establishment of foreign bases provided the Commission of Government with an unforeseen amount of wealth, which it used to improve social services. Advancements were made in health care, education, transportation, communication, and other fields. The presence of thousands of visiting Canadian and American troops also altered values and attitudes previously entrenched in Newfoundland and Labrador society. Standards of living rose, styles of dress changed, new friendships – both romantic and platonic – were forged, and the introduction of American radio and other forms of entertainment did much to integrate Newfoundland and Labrador into North American culture and distance it from Great Britain’s. Ultimately, the social changes of the 1940s helped shape the country’s constitutional future, which cumulated in Confederation.
economic changes-World War II economic expansion, also known as the postwar economic boom, the long boom, and the Golden Age of Capitalism, was a period of strong economic growth beginning after World War II and ending with the 1973–75 recession. The United States, Soviet Union, Western European and East Asian countries in particular experienced unusually high and sustained growth, together with full employment. Contrary to early predictions, this high growth also included many countries that had been devastated by the war, such as Japan (Japanese post-war economic miracle), West Germany and Austria (Wirtschaftswunder), France (Trente Glorieuses), Italy (Italian economic miracle), Greece (Greek economic miracle), Taiwan (Taiwan Miracle) and South Korea (Miracle of the Han River).
political changes---After a major disaster like a hurricane or earthquake, the first thing most people want to do is rebuild the lives they've lost, from their own houses to their neighborhood schools and stores. While it's most important to return to normalcy, at the same time, the terrible disaster presents an opportunity to rebuild things better and more in line with the values and needs of the community.
Warfare can often be far more destructive to families and communities than natural disasters, and perhaps no conflict disrupted the lives of the Europeans more than World War II (WWII). WWII obliterated entire regions of Europe and brought several countries' governments to their knees. As most Europeans were trying to rebuild their lives, the victorious Allies were using the opportunity to reshape Europe. However, as this lesson will detail, not everyone had the same plans for the political settlement of post-WWII Europe.
