SPEED:

  • speed is distance per unit of time
  • speed is a scalar quantity
  • speed has magnitude but no direction
  • AVERAGE SPEED = TOTAL DISTANCE/ TIME TAKEN.

VELOCITY:

  • Velocity is the displacement per unit time
  • velocity has magnitude and direction
  • velocity is a vector
  • Average velocity: Displacement/ time taken.

The different between speed and velocity is

Speed : the rate of change of position of a body with time in any direction is speed , i.e. distance covered by time .

Velocity: the rate of change of

position of a body with time in a

given direction. i.e. displacement

by time.
