A convex mirror is a type of spherical mirror mainly used in rear-view mirrors of cars .

They have the following parts :

1. Reflecting Surface: This surface allows regular reflection of light and leads to formation of clear, sharp and non hazy images.

2. Pole: It is the centre of the mirror through which the principal Axis passes.

3. Centre of Curvature: It is the geometric centre of the actual sphere from which the convex mirror was created. Light rays passing through this point get reflected from the mirror and trace back its path.

4. Principle Focus: It is a point on the principal axis on which paraxial light rays meet after getting reflected from the mirror.

5. Principle Axis: It is an imaginary straight line passing through the pole, principal focus and the centre of curvature of the mirror.

Refer to the diagram to understand all the parts of a convex mirror.

Index For Diagram :

1. P - Pole

2. F - Principle Focus

3. C - Centre of Curvature

4. AB - Principle Axis

5. Shaded region - Reflecting surface
