(vi) What value is learnt from this?
Answers
Given :
Electricity consumed by a household using incandescent bulb is 1480 units costing Rs. 4.50 per unit.
Given that compact fluorescent lights (CFL’s) consume four times less energy and last eight times longer than incandescent bulbs:
To Find :
(i) How many units will be consumed if all bulbs are changed to CFL’s
amount will be paid when incandescent bulbs are used
amount will be paid when CFL’s are used
Solution :
Units consumed by Bulbs = 1480 Units
Let say Bulb consume B units
Number of Bulbs = 1480/B
CFL consume = B/4 units
Number of CFLs = 1480/B ( as all bulbs replaced by CFL)
Units consumed by CFLs = (B/4)(1480/B) = 370 units
amount will be paid when incandescent bulbs are used = 1480 * 4.5
= 6660 Rs
amount will be paid when CFL’s are used = 370 * 4.5
= 1665 Rs
one incandescent bulb lasts for 2 months, then CFL last = 2 * 8 = 16 month
= 1 year 4 months
