NCERT Solutions for Class 7 Maths Chapter 1: Integers

Exercise 1.1 (Page number 4)

Question1. Following number line shows the temperature in degree celsius (°C) at different places on a particular day.

(a) Observe this number line and write the temperature of the places marked on it.

Solution (a): CHECK THE ATTACHMENT

(b) What is the temperature difference between the hottest and the coldest places among the above?

Solution (b):

The hottest place is Bangalore with temperature 22o C

The coldest place is Lahulspiti with temperature ‒ 8o C

Temperature difference = (22o C) ‒ (‒ 8o C) = 30o C.

(c) What is the temperature difference between Lahulspiti and Srinagar?

Solution (c):

Lahulspiti’s temperature = ‒ 8o C

Srinagar’s temperature = ‒2o C

Temperature difference = (‒2o C) ‒ (‒ 8o C) = 6o C.

(d) Can we say temperature of Srinagar and Shimla taken together is less than the temperature at Shimla? Is it also less than the temperature at Srinagar?

Solution (d):

Srinagar’s temperature = ‒ 2o C, Shimla’s temperature = 5o C

Temperature of Shimla and Srinagar when taken together = (5o C) + (‒ 2o C) = 3o C

Since, Srinagar’s temperature = ‒2o C

Clearly, Srinagar’s temperature is greater.
