Answer:

The cell theory was proposed by two scientists- Schleiden (1838)and Schwann (1839). It says that all the plants and animals are composed of cells and the cell is the basic unit of life.

Limitation of this theory is its 3rd conclusion that cell forms by free cell formation similar to the formation of the crystal.

The cell theory was further expanded and corrected by Virchow (1855) by suggesting that all cells arise from pre-existing cells.

  • Cells carry genetic material passed to daughter cells during cellular division
  • All cells are essentially the same in chemical composition
  • Energy flow (metabolism and biochemistry) occurs within cells.
