BE is the median of ∆ABC.

Median of a triangle divides it into two triangles of equal areas.

ar(ABE) = are(CBE) = 20 cm^2

ar(ABC) = ar(ABE)+ar(CBE)

ar(ABC) = 20+20

= 40 cm^2
