1. Half of a herd of deer are grazing in the field and three fourth of the remaining are playing nearby. The rest 9 are drinking water from the pond.
i) Represent this situation with the help of linear equation in one variable.(hint: take total number of deer equal to x)
ii) What is the total number of deer in the herd?
iii) How many deer are grazing in the field? iv) How many deer are playing?
v) How many deer in total are playing and drinking water from the pond?

Step-by-step explanation:
Let the total number of deer be x
according to question
x/2+3/4×x/2+9 = x
= x/2+3x/8+9 = x
= 4x+3x+72/8= x
= 7x+72= 8x
= 7x-8x = -72
= -x = -72
= x = 72
ii) The total number of deer in the herd are 72.
iii) 36 deer are grazing in the field.
iv) 27x deer are playing.
v) 9 deer are drinking water from the pond. 27 are playing.
