very important reason why we don’t randomly crash into another planet like Mars. It has to do with the length of a year. The way we orbit the Sun is stable because we don’t have any resonance effectswith the orbits of other planets. These tend to be destabilizing, especially when it brings you closer to other celestial bodies.
