I don't know about the Hindu mahasabha but I know about the Muslim League. A group of Muslim nawabs and landlords formed the All India Muslim league in Dacca,Bengal in 1906.The league asked for separate states for the Muslims as they thought that muslins will be left out if Hindus got all.To get this thing done they were unsupporting the indian in freedom struggle.This was also a reason for partition of bengal

1) according to me hindu mahasabha is group of Hindus .in 20 century congress party seem to totally influence by Hindus mahasabha due to which Muslim feel separate from congress this later lead to partition of india
