1. Gases like CO2 move from a process called diffusion

Water molecules move through a process called osmosis ...

2. Because it allows the entry of selected substances required for cell metabolism

1. CO2 moves due to diffusion and water moves due to osmosis.

Any substance which moves through a higher concentration to a lower concentration is diffusion
And if water moves from higher to lower concentration it is osmosis

2. Plasma membrane does not allow everything to enter in a cell. Only selective substances can enter through the plasma membrane. This is the reason it is called the selectively permeable membrane.
