1. Glucose mixes in the blood instantaneously as it is in the soluble form. Since in patients, the breakage of food is slowed down due to illness, hence Glucose is given because it releases instant energy.
2. In the instances of serious injury where there is heavy blood loss, severe dehydration, major surgeries in which a patient is not capable of taking solid food, etc, she/he is given glucose via drip. Glucose helps in recovering from dehydration as well.
3. A patient needs to be given a Glucose drip until her/his digestion becomes healthy again and she/he is able to digest food on her/his own completely.

(a) Glucose is the most absorb-able form of carbohydrate.
Any other carbohydrate breaks down to glucose before absorption by the blood vessels and finally by blood.
Therefore, it provides instant energy.
(b) When the patient suffers from hypoglycemia, they need to be on drip of glucose.
Hypoglycemia is a condition, where blood glucose level goes down below normal and patient feels very weak.
This can occur due to less intake of carbohydrates, problems with breakdown of complex form of carbohydrate to simpler form, any factor preventing absorption of glucose by blood or may be due to severe blood loss.
(c) A patient needs to be on glucose drip, till normal blood glucose level returns or he / she is able to intake food properly.
