Answer :

1]

Given that, the cost of a notebook is

= Rs 8 3/4

= Rs 35/4

Also, Rs 131 1/4

= Rs 525/4

So, required notebooks to be bought

= (525/4)/(35/4)

= 15

So, 15 notebooks can be bought.

2]

Amount of sugar

= 5 2/5 kg

= 27/5 kg

and total cost

= Rs 101 1/4

= Rs 405/4

So, the cost of sugar per kg

= Rs (405/4)/(27/5)

= Rs {(405 × 5)/(4 × 27)}

= Rs 2025/108

= Rs 75/4

= Rs 18 3/4

Hope it helps!

 \bold{1 \: st \: sum:}

changing mixed fractions into improper fraction :

8 3/4 = 35/4

131 1/4 = 525/4

Given :

1 book = 35/4

? = 525/4

 \dfrac{525}{4} \times \dfrac{4}{35} = 15

Hence , 15 books can be purchased .

\bold{2 \: nd \: sum:}

Changing mixed fraction into improper fraction :

5 2/5 = 27/5

101 1/4 = 405/4

Given:

27/5 kg of sugar = 405/4

per kg =. ?

 \dfrac{405}{4} \times \dfrac{5}{27} = \dfrac{2025}{108} = \dfrac{75}{4} = 18 \dfrac{3}{4}
