In the experiment to verify Ohm's law, if a student uses Germanium wire then, the shape of the graph will be non-linear, unline resistors, whose graph is linear.

  • Germanium is a semi-conductor material.
  • Its electrical behaviour is different as compared to a conducting resistor.
  • When an adjustable voltage source is applied across Germanium, no current will flow through the circuit untill the voltage across Germanium is greater tha 0.3 Volts. after 0.3 Volts, the current increases very rapidly.
