Answer:
1) There are six major controls of the climate of a place:
(i) Latitude: Due to the curvature of the earth, the amount of solar energy received varies according to the latitude. As a result, temperature generally decreases from the equator towards the poles.
(ii) Altitude: As one goes from the surface of the earth to higher altitudes, the atmosphere becomes less dense and temperature decreases.
(iii) Pressure and wind system: The pressure and wind system of any area depend on the latitude and altitude of the place. Thus, it influences the temperature and rainfall pattern.
(iv) Distance from the sea: Places close to the sea have a moderate climate whereas places away from the sea have a continental climate.
(v) Ocean Currents: Oceans along with onshore winds affect the climate of the coastal areas.
(vi) Relief features: Mountains act as a barrier for cold winds, hot winds and rain-bearing winds. Thus, influencing the climate of the place.
2)The climate around the world is affected by many different factors that lead to different parts of the Earth experiencing differing climates. Latitude, altitude, pressure and winds are factors that influence India’s climate. The Tropic of Cancer passes through the middle of the country from the Rann of Kuchchh in the west to Mizoram in the east. India lies in the region of northeasterly winds. These winds originate from the subtropical high-pressure belt of the northern hemisphere.
