Step-by-step explanation:

Lucas buys an ice cream. Let us consider the value of one ice cream as x.

So, each costs $ 3.75 each.

x = $ 3.75

2x = 3.75 × 2

Price of two ice creams is $ 7.5 in total.

Now, Lucas gives the cashier $ 10.

And what we want is the change which he will get back.

To get the amount of change he will get,

we need to subtract the money he gave minus the original amount.

Thus, the equation is :-

$ 10 - $ 7.5

= $ 2.5

So, the original amount he gets back as a change is $ 2.5 . And hence the answer.

[We can consider the constant x as any variable just to bring out the total amount of 2 ice creams] .
