1. Nazma's sister also has a trapezium shaped plot. Divide it into three parts as shown
(Fig 11.4). Show that the area of trapezium WXYZ =h(a+b/2)
2.If h= 10 cm, c = 6 cm, b= 12 cm,
d=4 cm, find the values of each of
its parts separately and add to find
the area WXYZ. Verify it by putting
the values of h, a and b in the express(a+b/2)

Answer with Step-by-step explanation:

Height of h

a-b=c+d

Area of area of two triangles +area of rectangle

Area of =\frac{1}{2}ch+\frac{1}{2}dh+bh

Area of rectangle =length\times breadth

Area of triangle=\frac{1}{2}\times base\times height

Area of  WXYZ=\frac{1}{2}(c+d)h+bh=\frac{1}{2}(a-b)h+bh

Area of  WXYZ=\frac{a-b+2b}{2}h

Area of WXYZ=\frac{1}{2}(a+b)h

Hence, proved.

h=10 cm,c=6cm,b=12cm,d=4cm

a=c+b+d=6+12+4=22cm

Area of one triangle =\frac{1}{2}\times c\times h=\frac{1}{2}\times 6\times 10=30cm^2

Area of other triangle =\frac{1}{2}\times d\times h=\frac{1}{2}\times 4\times 10=20cm^2

Area of rectangle =10\times 12=120cm^2

Area of WXYZ=30+40+120=170cm^2

Area of  WXYZ=\frac{1}{2}(22+12)\times 10=170cm^2

LHS=RHS

Hence, verified.
