Given : P, Q and R shares in 4:3:2 ratio. Q retires and goodwill was Rs 16,200

To Find : P and R share in Goodwill

Solution:

Gaining ratio = New ratio - Old ratio

P' Old Share = 4/9

P's New share = 4/6 = 2/3

P'  Gaining ratio = 4/9 - 2/3   = -2/9

R' Old Share = 2/9

R's New share = 2/6 = 1/3

R'  Gaining ratio = 2/9 - 1/3   = -1/9

P : R  = -2/9 : -1/9

=> P : R  = -2 : - 1

=> P : R  =  2 :  1

Share = ( 3/9) 16200  = 5400

P  = (2/3)5400 = 3600

P  = (1/3)5400 = 1800

P-3600 R- 1800
