Cartesian Coordinate System :-
Cartesian coordinate system in a plane is a system which is used to find location of points through numerical coordinates. The coordinates are assigned as per distance from the fixed perpendicular lines known as coordinate axis. The point where coordinate axis meet/cut each other is taken as reference for all distance for numerical coordinates. The point is known as Origin and have ( 0, 0 ) as numerical coordinate.
X and Y axis are coordinate axis. They form four quadrants named as first, second, third and fourth quadrant. Points in the XY plane are represented by numerical coordinate ( x,y ).
If point's numerical coordinates,
- x > 0 and y > 0 then it is in first quadrant,
- x < 0 and y > 0 then it is in second quadrant,
- x < 0 and y < 0 then it is in third quadrant, and
- x > 0 and y < 0 then it is in fourth quadrant.
Answer :-
Here, point ( 4, 3 ) has x > 0 and y > 0 so it is in first quadrant.
Point ( -2, 2 ) has x < 0 and y > 0 so it is in second quadrant.
Point ( -3, -2 ) has x < 0 and y < 0 so it is in third quadrant.
Point ( 1, -3 ) has x > 0 and y < 0 so it is in fourth quadrant.
NOTE : Graph is in attachment.
- First quadrant: The First quadrant is in the upper-right side of a plane . x and y both have the positive values in this quadrant.
For example:- (x,y)
- Second quadrant: The Second quadrant is in the upper-left side of a plane. x have negative value and y have positive value in this quadrant.
For example:- (-x,y)
- Third quadrant: The Third quadrant is in the bottom-left side of a plane. x and y both have negative values in this quadrant.
For example:- (-x,-y)
- Fourth quadrant: The Fourth quadrant is in the bottom-right side of a plane. x have positive value and y have negative value in this quadrant.
For example:- (x,-y)
