The Britishers had almost taken control over most parts of India by 1833. They had set up administrative units all over and had started functioning according to their will. They had not realised that the Indian society is different from the society they had lived in vastly. They used similar forms of governance in India as well as in Britain. This caused a rise in movements against the British East India Company. As a result, to suppress these movements, a new officer called The Governor-General of India was empowered to legislate for the whole of civil, military and revenue services by the Act of 1833.
