air can contain a certain amount of water vapour and it is fixed. Now humidity means the percentage of water vapour in air. If the humidity increases then it means that the amount of water vapour is increasing in air. Air can contain a fixed amount of water vapour in it. So the power of air to take water vapour into it decreases. Any aqueous solution while evaporation makes water vapour because it contains water as solvent. So this is the reason that why rate of evaporation of an aqueous solution decreases with increase in humidity.

Rate of evaporation of an aqueous solution decreases with increase in humidity because as humidity increases the amount of water vapor in air increases so the air becomes saturated and cannot hold much water. Hence rate of evaporation decreases
