1) The trees aren't sprinting. It just that when the author's car passes by the trees seems to move back which happens while riding a vehicle. They seem to be sprinting.
2) She was leaving the town and hence with sadness she looked at her mother as she knew she couldn't do anything to help her.
3) She observed that her mother has turned pale and weak.
