1 Read this passage carefully and answer the questions that follow. (8 marks)
Onam is a popular festival of Kerala. It falls in the month of August or September in kerala. It
is celebrated with great pomp and show. The people of kerala remember king Mahabali on
this day. Mahabali was a very kind king. He was famous for his kindness and justice among
the people of kerala. The people loved and worshipped him like a God. But the other Gods in
heaven did not like this. They snatched his kingdom and drove him out the king pleaded to
the Gods," Please allow me to see my people once every year". The Gods agreed so on this
day people of kerala decorate their houses with rangolis and flowers. A special sweet dish,
called payasam is prepared for the feast. There are snake-boat races in the rivers. All the
people have a good time.
