Speed of ritu in stream water be y km/hr

Speed downstream =(x+y) km/hr

Speed upstream =(x−y) km/hr

we know, time=\frac{distance}{speed}

\frac{4}{x-y} =2

20=2(x+y) \\\frac{20}{2} =x+y\\x+y=10   .....(1)\\4=2(x-y)\\\frac{4}{2} =x-y\\x-y=2       .....(2)\\

Using elimination method

x+y=10\\x-y=2

2x=12\\x=\frac{12}{2} \\x=6

   Putting x value in equation (2)

x-y=2\\(6)-y=2\\6-y=2\\-y=2-6\\-y=-4\\y=4
