'An Angle in Disguise' begins with a very melancholic tone. It starts with the unfortunate death of Maggie's mother and then she and her siblings becoming orphans.

Later they are adopted by different families, separating them from one another and Maggie is decided to be sent to the poor house.

But ironically the story ends on a joyous note by Maggie not being sent to the poor house but instead being adopted by Joe and Jane Thompson who had no children.

Thus, Maggie acted as an Angel in Disguise for the childless couple.

Only knew the answer as im in ICSE too...in class Xth though.
