Use the double-angle formula for cos,

sec2A=11–2sin2A

Using the definition of tan,

sec2A=11–2tan2Acos2A

Using the definition of sec and pythagorean identities,

sec2A=11−2tan2Asec2A=11−2tan2A1+tan2A

Then multiply through 1+tan2A1+tan2A,

sec2A=1+tan2A1+tan2A−2tan2A=1+tan2A1−tan2A
