1. There are two numbers x and y such thatx <y. Their H.C.F. is 4 and L.C.M. is 48. If2 is added to y, the H.C.F. is increased by2. If 2 is subtracted from x, the H.C.F. isreduced by 2. Find values of u and y.

Answer:

x = 48 , y = 4

Step-by-step explanation:

the product if two numbers = the product of their HCF and LCM .

so..........

x y = 4 × 48 = 192 ........( 1 )

x ( y+2 ) = 6 × 48 = 288 ......... ( 2 )

( x-2 ) y = 2 × 48 = 96. ........( 3 )

(2) becomes , xy + 2x = 288 ..........( 4 )

( 3 ) becomes , xy - 2y = 96 .........( 5 )

from ( 4 ) 2x = 288 - xy

= 288 - 192 = 96

or x = 48

from ( 1 ) y = 192/x = 192/48

= 4

so x = 48 , y = 4

hope u understand n.. helpful to u ☺️☺️
