ANSWER : These are huge stones found at most of burial sites. A box like structure was erected with the stone slabs, resting on each other without any mortar. sometime there was an opening cut into one of the side, also know as memorial stones. they are called so because these acted either as burial sites or commemorative memorials. while some megaliths can be seen on the surface, some other are often found underground. stone circles or boulders placed on the surface probably served as signposts to find the burial site, so that people could return to the same place whenever they wanted.

1. Megaliths are very large stones found at most Sangam Age burial sites. The name 'Megalith' is a Greek word where 'mega' means large and 'lithos' means stones.
- The structures were built from stone slabs without the use of mortar sometimes, the builder would cut tunnels into one of the slabs.
- A hole could sometimes be carved in one of the slabs.
- It's also called a memorial stone.
