The Neolithic or New Stone Age (7 to 10,000 years ago) pertains to a stage of culture following the Paleolithic and is characterized by the use of polished stone implements, development of permanent dwell- ings, cultural advances such as pottery making, domestication of animals and plants, the cultivation of grain .

The Neolithic Age started in India around 7,000 B.C. It was the third and last part of the Stone Age. The other two parts were -Paleolithic Age (500,000 B.C. to 10,000 B.C.) and Mesolithic Age (9,000 B.C. to 4,000 B.C.).
