1) A.P.J Abdul Kalam used to wear a cap that marked him as Muslim. In class, Abdul used to sit beside his best friend Ramanadha sastry, who was the son of the high priest of the village. The new teacher could not stomach a Muslim boy sitting beside a brahmin, so the teacher asked Abdul to go and sit at the end of the classroom.

2) The high priest, Lakshmana sastry summoned the teacher and ordered him not to spread the poison of social inequality and communal tolerance. The priest also ordered the teacher to apologize otherwise to quit the school and the island.

3) A.P.J. Abdul Kalams science teacher, Sivasubramania Iyer, was called as rebel because he wanted to bring about a change in society. He wanted people from different castes and backgrounds to mingle easily.
