Toenails grow slower than fingernails, at a rate of about 1 mm per month. Hair, on the other hand, grows at a much faster rate: roughly ¼ to ½ inch per month, or 6 inches per year. In fact, after bone marrow, hair is the fastest growing tissue in the body.

HAYE MATE HERE YOUR ANSWER

Nails are made up of a substance called keratin. Many people think that nails grow from the fingertip region but actually they grow from the roots near the skin. At the base of the nail the skin is really very thin. There is half moon shaped whitish region in the nail called lunula which contains keratin. This keratin merges with the nail plate and pushes the entire nail up.
