• Before the spread of education, right to vote was determined on the grounds of religion, race , caste , education, property, sex etc . But with the spread of democracy, the granting of right to vote to every individual without any discrimination is called universal Adult Franchise .
• The age of adulthood , however, varies from country to country . For example, this age is 18 years in countries like India , England, USA , Russia etc and 23 years in Norway .
• Article 362 of the Indian constitution provides for holding elections to the Lok sabha and State legislative Assemblies on the basis of Adult franchise and every individual who is a citizen of India and has attained the age of 18 years and has not been disqualified from exercising his right to vote , can get himself, registered as a voter .
• Article 325 of the constitution provides that no citizen of India shall be debarred from inclusion in the voters 'list on the basis of religion, caste , race or sex .
