Answer:

Torch is a portable electric lamp which can be held in hand. The function of a torch is to provide light to the surrounding when it's dark.

Explanation:

PARTS OF TORCH

  • Case - The torch components are enclosed inside a metal or plastic body called a case of a torch.
  • Battery (Electric cell) - An electric torch contains two or more batteries. Each electric cell has positive and negative terminals. They are connected in such a way that the positive terminal of one cell is connected to the negative terminal of another cell.
  • Bulb - Every torch has a small bulb connected in the circuit which glows to give light. It is mostly made up of tungsten.
  • Electric circuit - It is an interconnection of electrical components which is in a closed loop giving a return path for the current.
  • Switch - The electric circuit is controlled by a switch to ON and OFF the torch.

WORKING OF TORCH

  • A circuit diagram with labeled parts of the torch is represented in  the image below.
  • There are two electric cells/batteries, switch, case, and a bulb making an electric circuit.
  • The line in the diagram represents the metal conductors which connect the circuit together.
  • An electrical circuit is a closed conducting path.
  • In the torch when the switch is ON the circuit is complete and allows current to flow and the bulb glows. When the switch is OFF the circuit is incomplete and the bulb does not glow.
