Montmorency voice the dog of the author and his friends. according to the author his ambition in life was to disturb the work and get scolded. he was present where he was not wanted. he was a nuisance and made people mad. he thought his day wasted if he had not things thrown at his head. we don't think that it was his ambition we think that that he was an animal with all characteristics of an animal.

He came and sat on things when they were about to be packed. He put his leg into the jam and pretended that lemons were rats and killed three of them.
It is natural of him to behave in this particular way and do things like that.
