Given→

If side is decreased by 7 cm , then the area = 625 cm².

To find→

a) equation

b) original side

Solution→

a). Equation = ?

Area of the square = side²

Side of the original square = x

Area of the original square = x²

According to question,

( x - 7 )² = 625

x²-2(x)(7) + 7² = 625

x²-14x+ 49-625 = 0

x²-14x-576 = 0

b) side of the original square = ?

x² - 32x + 18x -576 = 0

x(x-32) + 18 (x- 32) = 0

(x+ 18 )(x- 32) = 0

x= -18 or x = 32

rejecting x = -18 as side can't be negative

x = 32

Therefore, side of the original square is 32 cm.

Hope it's helpful :-)
