(1) The velocity of a particle moving uniformly in a circle is (b) variable.

(2) The slope of the distance-time graph gives (c) speed.

Given: A particle is moving uniformly in a circle

To Find:

(1) The velocity of a  particle is moving uniformly in a circle.

(2) The slope of the distance-time graph

Solution:

  • It is to be noted that when a particle rotates uniformly in a circle, its speed remains constant at all times, but its direction changes at every instant. The centripetal force acting in the direction of the center of rotation accelerates the particle.
  • Since, velocity is a vector having magnitude and direction, when a particle moves in a circle, its magnitude remains constant but the direction changes. So, velocity is variable.
  • The slope or gradient of the distance-time graph gives us its speed. If it had been displacement then the slope would have given us the velocity.

Coming to the questions,

(1) From the first and second points, we can conclude that the velocity of a particle moving uniformly in a circle is (b) variable.

(2) From the third point, we can say that the slope of the distance-time graph gives (c) speed.
