Given : A graph

To Find : Which polynomial function in factored form represents the given graph below?

A y = (x+2)(x+1)(x-1)

B y=(x-2)(x-1)(x+1)

C y= x(x+2)(x+1) (x-1)

D. y= x(x - 2)(x + 1) (x - 1)

Solution:

From the graph it intersects x axis at

- 1 , 0 , 1 , 2

Hence zeroes are  - 1 , 0 , 1 , 2

If zeroes are a , b , c , d

Then polynomial can be

(x - a)(x - b)(x - c) (x - d)

Hence polynomial can be

(x - (-1)) (x - 0) (x - 1)(x -2)

= (x + 1) x (x - 1)(x - 2)

=  x(x - 2)(x + 1) (x - 1)

y= x(x - 2)(x + 1) (x - 1)   represents the given graph
