1 The Carbon Cycle | Back to Top

Plants also convert energy from light into chemical energy of C-C covalent bonds. Animals are carbon dioxide producers that derive their energy from carbohydrates and other chemicals produced by plants by the process of photosynthesis.

2 Water supplies the electrons for the reduction of carbon dioxide; water is cleaved in the process yielding oxygen as a byproduct. Light provides the energy for the reduction. Light essentially splits water (photolysis) to yield electrons and protons for photosynthesis.

Explanation:

1) carbon dioxide provides the carbon that the plant uses to produce glucose

2) carbon dioxide is combined with water using the energy from sunlight.

the carbon in glucose is not only used in cellular respiration to make ATP but actually makes up most of the plants
