IN SOLIDS THE PARTICLES ARE MORE CLOSELY PACKED AND CAN TRANSFER THE WAVES OF SOUND FASTER BUT IN GASES THE PARTICLES ARE FAR AWAY AND THJS THE SPEED IS LOW...
TO RESONATE THE SOUND THEY ARE FITTED WITH SOFT MATERIAL

Here's ur explanations.......
1. Sine the velocity (speed ) of sound is directly proportional to density of the material.......and Since the density of solid is greater than that of gas therefore speed of sound is greater in solids than in gases.
2. The soft curtains or clothes are a good absorber of sound and reflect least amount of it or negligible, making the walls of the halls non-irritable as the sound doesn't get reflected......therefore the walls of the auditorium covered qith soft materials.
Hope it hepls
