When the sum of 89 and 98 is divided by 11, the quotient can be found by finding the closest multiple of 11 that is closest to the sum of 89 and 98.

In this case, the closest multiple of 11 to the sum of 89 and 98 is

11 × 9 = 99, which is only one less than the sum of 89 and 98.

Hence, the quotient when the sum of 89 and 98 is divided by 11 is 9.

(ii) When the sum of 89 and 98 is divided by 17, the closest multiple of 17 that is closest to the sum of 89 and 98 is 17 ×5 = 85,

which is four less than the sum of 89 and 98.

Hence, the quotient when the sum of 89 and 98 is divided by 17 is 5.
