Answer:
The Rise of Christianity (subtitled either A Sociologist Reconsiders History or How the Obscure, Marginal Jesus Movement Became the Dominant Religious Force in the Western World in a Few Centuries, depending on the edition), is a book by the sociologist Rodney Stark, which examines the rise of Christianity, from a small movement in Galilee and Judea at the time of Jesus to the majority religion of the Roman Empire a few centuries later.

Christendom started as a small Jewish community in Judea in the 1st century AD after Jesus was dead, but it expanded rapidly all over the Roman Empire. It was later the state religion, despite early persecutions against Christians.
Explanation:
- In the middle of the 1st century CE, Christianity was founded in Judea, first on the basis of Jesus's teachings and later on Paul's work as missionary and scholar.
- The status of Judaism as a legal religion had been granted formal protection in the "Roman Empire". Although the Christianity grew from Jewish traditions, it had no legal safeguards like that.
- In the first two centuries of CE, Christians were sometimes persecuted — punished formally — for their beliefs. The official Roman state, however, generally ignored Christians unless the imperial authority was clearly challenged.
- While it is often claimed that Christians have been persecuted for not worshiping the emperor, a widespread hatred of Christians was possibly due to their refusal to serve the gods or to take part in sacrifices demanded by those who lived in the Roman Empire. Because of the rejection by Christian of pagan rituals in Rome, Christians were perceived as a danger to civilization. The majority of the Romans were polytheists at the time of Anti-Christianity.
- In 313, the Milan Edict was issued by the Emperor Constantine which granted legal status to Christianity and to other religions. Although this was a significant development in Christianity history, it was not a complete substitution for Christianity for modern Roman beliefs.
- In 335 CE, the Nicaean Council exerted greater influence on Christianity because the Roman Emperor now officially accepted the religion & worked for a clear set of convictions and practices. In 380 CE, when it became the official religion of the Roman Empire Christianity gained even more influence.
- Overnight, the Roman Empire was not Christianized. Over time, Roman religious faiths slowly changed. Christianity was already spreading when the western Roman Empire collapsed in 476 CE.
- It should always be recalled that Christianity itself did not emerge unexpectedly or entirely developed. Christianity was formed from Jewish traditions and for many centuries has been shaped by Roman cultural and political structures.
