Regarding the difficulty faced by differently-abled people at tourist places.
Sir/Ma'am,
I would like to draw the attention of the authorities and the people through the esteemed column of your newspaper regarding the difficulties faced by the differently-abled people at tourist places.
Assam is a beautiful place to visit. It is on the list of tourists because of its beauty and many tourist attractions but are these places easily commutable by the differently-abled people? The answer is No.
Travelling can be fun and worth memorable if done hassle free. The memories can either be worth remembering or not. Being a resident of Siliguri, I daily see a lot of tourists over here. Some of them are differently abled as well but the transport system here is not friendly for them. The roads are not walkable and for a handicapped person who cannot walk, it is totally troublesome. There are potholes all over the places which make it hard for the tourists.
There is no proper management for blind people as well. They should have a different track so that they don't get mixed in the crowd of other people and get lost in their way or hurt themselves. Being to a new place for travelling, tourists should be given a good and safe experience.
The buses are old and carries passengers like they are taking cattle for grazing, There should be proper transport provision.
Also at many tourist places, there is no proper seating arrangements. People are seen sitting on big rocks or bench which are very few in number. Good quality benches should be arranged over every 1-2 km.
I love Assam and I want the tourists to love it as well. I want the people who come here take back some beautiful memories and not a memory filled with hustle and bustle.
Keeping in mind the security, specially for differently abled people, I request the authorities to take actions on it and make the arrangements which are properly accessible.
I hope that my request will be taken into consideration by the authorities and an action will be taken on it as soon as possible. I will be really thankful to you.
Yours sincerely,
Debashree
