(1) Ans: The three common minerals used every day are Salt, Gold and Copper.

(2) Ans: (a) In rural areas – coal, solar energy, bio-gas and firewood can be used as sources of energy. (b) In coastal areas – wind power, petroleum and tidal power can be used. (C) In arid areas, geothermal powers and solar energy are the most suitable sources of energy to be used.

(3) Ans: The British wanted tribal groups to settle down and become peasant cultivators, because as settled peasants they were easier to control and administer. The British also wanted a regular revenue source for the state.

(4)Ans: Some forests were classified as Reserved Forests for they produced timber which the British wanted. In these forests people were not allowed to move freely, practise jhum cultivation, collect fruits, or hunt animals.

(5)Ans: Two problems which arose with the new Munro system of fixing revenue were: The revenue demand was fixed too high that could not be met by the peasants. Peasants being unable to pay the rent fled the countryside and the villages became deserted in many regions.
